The Bauhaus—the original cross-disciplinary design collaboration—is 100 years old next year, and Chicago is where the New Bauhaus took shape after World War II. But what would keep the Bauhaus up at night if it were around today? Molly and Laura will give background about the groundbreaking German design school founded in 1919, then bring it up to date: what can we learn in how we craft, learn design, work critically, and collaborate? This talk draws from the forthcoming book Bauhaus Futures (MIT Press, forthcoming Spring 2019), a collection of more than 20 essays from creative luminaries, edited by Laura Forlano (Institute of Design, IIT), Molly Wright Steenson (CMU), and Mike Ananny (USC).
