The actual content of the experiences we design has largely been an afterthought in digital design for nearly 20 years, which is surprising, since most of us are designing products and services that deliver content. One reason may be the word “content” itself. While it’s intentionally broad and inclusive, the word is also hopelessly vague. In this workshop we'll drop the word and instead bring it to life by focusing on designing to communicate.
We'll see how information is exchanged everywhere in our designs, in moments large and small. We'll explore how a thoughtful, strategic, and systematic approach to communicating can enrich every phase of our work—from research to design to development—creating content that is relevant and actionable. We'll do this through small-group activities, applying the ideas, sharing out our work, and discussing as a group.
You’ll leave this workshop with a fresh perspective on the role of content in designing experiences, methods to document content needs and opportunities, and knowledge of how collaboration with content strategists can advance your work.
